What is LED Lighting?
LED stands for light-emitting diode; but what’s important to know about LED lighting is that it’s the most energy efficient lighting technology. It’s also the most rapidly developing lighting technology.
Today’s LED lighting can cut industrial energy by more than 80 percent (residential lighting energy savings is about 75 percent) and can have a life of 25,000 hours. That’s the equivalent of more than 25 times longer than a traditional light bulb.
LED lighting emits light in a focused direction but emits very little heat. That’s the key to its energy efficiency.
According to the U.S. Department of Energy, this is what makes LED lighting ideal for industrial use.
Benefits of LED Lighting
Besides energy efficiency, here are some of the other benefits of LED lighting:
- Long life
- Environmentally friendly by being free of toxic chemicals
- No UV (ultra-violet) emissions
- Low-voltage operation
