Components Company Celebrates Manufacturing Month

Like many other manufacturing companies in Wisconsin, Components Company is celebrating October as Manufacturing Month. Earlier this month, Gov. Scott Walker proclaimed October to be Manufacturing Month for the entire state of Wisconsin.

Wisconsin’s New Manufacturing Month Proclamation

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker made the proclamation on Oct. 2, 2017.

According to the Wisconsin Manufacturing and Commerce website, the state’s manufacturing sector equaled $56 billion worth of economic output and employed more than 450,000 residents. It accounted for about 18 percent of the state’s gross domestic product.

By proclaiming the entire month of October as Manufacturing Month, Wisconsin is helping to promote manufacturing as a viable career.

This year, Wisconsin has also assigned each week of Manufacturing Month a focused topic.

  • First week: Vocational Education
  • Second week: High-Tech Manufacturing
  • Third week: Women in Manufacturing
  • Fourth week: Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin

The Wisconsin Manufacturing and Commerce website features videos about each of these topics. They also have a list of events.

October’s Manufacturing Ties and History

In the U.S., the first Friday of October is celebrated annually as National Manufacturing Day.

However, the day hasn’t been recognized for that long. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie first proclaimed National Manufacturing Day in 2012 and former President Barack Obama signed the Presidential Proclamation for National Manufacturing Day in 2014.

During National Manufacturing Day, observers are encouraged to explore new ideas and collaborate on new technology. In social media, they are encouraged to use the hashtag #MFG17 (the number represents the year and changes annually) in their conversations. There are also many events on and around National Manufacturing Day around the nation.

This year, National Manufacturing Day fell on Oct. 6. It will fall on the following dates in upcoming years (always on the first Friday in October):

October 5, 2018
October 4, 2019
October 2, 2020
October 1, 2021
October 7, 2022
October 6, 2023

Wisconsin’s Gov. Scott Walker took the recognition one step further this year by proclaiming October as Manufacturing Month statewide.

Components Company is proud to be a manufacturing partner and company in the state of Wisconsin. Please contact us for your future manufacturing needs!
